Yes, things, all sorts, stuff, and the rest, all happening around here. firstly the tracklist and release date (october time) for the cable tribute has been announced and also the order in which the tracks are getting streamed on myspace(?!?) this is news But anyway we are grateful to signature tune records and drowned in sound for letting the people know. We recorded a version of the Clairvoyant off the blue birds are blue single which has long been a favourite where myself and Mr Chandler are concerned. Other releases from our own sleeves are planned for the autumn.. more on that later in the year.. Firstly we are off to Holland as half of blood red shoes is going on holiday so we're pinching the other half.

Big up to the east of England, Piers and I just spent a fruitful weekend bringing the duo style econoline to suffolk and Norfolk, whilst enjoying the comforts of east anglia of an evening. Thanks must go out to Beat Motel zine in Ipswich and Wombat Wombat in Norwich for their respective all dayer organisational skills. Thanks must also go to the metereological conditions over the weekend and their clemency yesterday which enabled us to sit my the seaside and eat our packed lunch before going to mix four tracks with Mr Steven Ansell, of Blood red shoes soon to be fame. They sound great and we're also very pleased with our home recorded stuff, the four songs off the shirt EP (re mixed and mastered), and six more songs that we recorded ourselves, so that's looking like an album right there, details to follow. We have two more shows coming up

Just think, it was only a few years ago that those brave americans done in those aliens on behalf of the world. Well done, some warmongering is worthwhile I suppose! Anyway, this is a quick thing to announce that we're now allowed to talk about this Cable tribute album that's coming out (although it got announced on the omnipresent Drownedinsound while ago) but yes, we recorded a track for it, and so did many other worthies, including stapleton, Tom Vek, Derby locals Fixit kid, and many, many more.. details are HERE preorder it go and listen to all the old cable records and stuff. The best thing about the world cup so far you ask? Well i'd have to go for Damo Suzuki's rant about not being able to get home through the crowds. I urge everyone to sign up to his mailing list to get his amazing emails, the man can not only still "bring it" with a stageful of random blokes every night with his sound carrying antics, he also has alot to say about wherever it is he's just been. SO I'll follow his lead, Last weeks show with De Rosa was jolly nice, and enlivened by many anecdotes from Chemikal Underground's head honcho's who were accompanying their charges around the UK. The band themselves were mighty personable and rocked it up live, the Metro is kind of an odd shape, but the sound guy was a good chap, who seemed to take a great delight in playing songs each band had clearly ripped off women of the world take over by Jim 'O' Rourke got the nod after we played. It was also good to see some of old friends at the show, hat's off for missing the end of the football. Anyway we are in the process of booking some more ROCK gigs in august, news on those as we have them, and finalising our plans for our trips to Holland and Spain for later in the year, 'til then.

Good things
Having moved, I can say that good things are.. getting other people to do moving for you, because it's hard. Last week I took my car to be serviced.. a headlight bulb wanted replacing.. they told me they didn't like to replace these bulbs as it was "hard".. I think i will try this in my next job.. Sorry I don't want to do that, it's a bit.. well you know, difficult, is that okay? That'll be £300 anyway. THANKS. BUT I DIGRESS.. Other good things leaving work as you get presents, and get to watch interesting documentaries about easter island.. Their big mistake.. Cutting down all the trees. For I have sinned, it's been a couple of months since my last posting.. I was wooed by Myspace, but I decided to switch back to this, I keep thinking about Rupert Murdoch in the simpson's, you know the one where Homer et al go to the superbowl. ANYWAY, I digress. MUCH has happened since I last rapped at you. For one thing Jane and I have got a house in Cambridge.. which now renders econoline a truly national band. Here's to the hundreds of pounds the people at BR and the Dartford crossing are going to make out of us!

“..this is basically a pure pop record with schizophrenia. Recorded in 2003 but delayed by financial constraints, it’s a journey between acoustic turned heads and amps on full blast…This Band… might own the throwaway summer given the chance. “Lend Me a Friend” is reminiscent of Neil Finn and Teenage Fanclub at their most cantankerous. Scanlon testifies, “Do you kiss your mother with that mouth…its nothing to shout about” with the manner of a community worker that you’d actually trust. …A Charm Offensive” is just that. Commercial as REM and Wilco on a bright day, bulky like My Bloody Valentine or Q and Not U, and bleep ridden at the finish. ... The aptly titled “go team!” pulps pop aesthetics like its namesake. Combining Corgan melancholia and Busted harmonies, it transforms bad employment into great lyrical copy. Yes we're still playing, we've done a couple of shows since the tour, one with Tim from Hey Colossus on drums (opening for the mighty mighty Elf Power who were wicked, and nice people to boot, and one at the windmill with the squelchy goodness of chow chow. Look out for the chow's as they are being courted by all manner of labels, producers and ladies. Anyway, that was meant to be rocking but traffic on the A23 knocked us down to a two piece again.. but we kicked it white stripes style (although it was a push trying to persuade people Piers was my sister.

GOOD THINGS Too many to mention since last time really, but most recently, aberfeldy live last week, the new the delgado's peel sessions double album, plan B printing one of Jane's Photo's of the broken family band, the new hey colossus line up without me and Tim! Also of course, there's football, but I'd like to give an honourable mention to the cricket and rugby (although England keep getting thrashed at that). Bad things, my youngest niece has really bad chicken pox and is in hospital, boo to you stupid virus rubbish, it gave me shingles last year.. isn't that bad enough? LOVE TO ALL.

From our tour! Despite injuring my head, catching a cold, and spending roughly half of every day driving, it was a jolly good time. Much thanks must go out to the numerous promoters and top people that let us stay in their house and all the bands who played with us. I will be going through all their myspaces/ websites and putting up links here and on our myspace. I also managed to pick up some great second hand records from rob's in nottingham, and we also ate extremely well! Two more dates in the next week

MOTHER NATURE!

obviously taking umbrage at my weak joke about snow in the last blog I posted this is what happened in the course of about two hours in glasgow on saturday

carnage! We ending up deciding the fighting under dressed mentalists for cab's in the middle of glasgow was a fool's errand and walked home with all our gear like real punk rockers should.. and in the morning when we had to go home it was still SNOWING!

In the background there is Alastair, marceline Uter's flatmate who stoically lead us all the way home and then manfully got up and helped us to carry our stuff to Queen street station! awesome.

GOOD STUFF MONO in glasgow, how can no one in london have opened a combined boozer/ organic food shop/ restaurant and record store! Many purchases were made, including the new my latest novel album, which is great and the erorrs album on rock action which i've not checked out yet but which comes highly recommended, Piers picked up Hood's "cold house" really cheap, and we also hit Avalanche and got a few other things there too. What a town, except for the bloody snow. Thanks to Uter and mar-c in particular for letting us stay in her new house, next stop, no holds barred rocking out complete with sleeveless vests and steve ansell on the tubs, if the rehearsals are anything to go by i may even get thin by the end of the gigs. For all the dates see below, and have a look at MYSPACE for some of the tunes we're doing. The two unreleased tracks on there are going to be on a 7" that we're going to release later in the spring, with two of our folk/ electronic tracks too. IT'S SNOW JOKE

Christ I'm a funny guy! So yes both of our last two shows have involved some hefty amount of car travel through the inside of a snow shaker... Piers and I went down to Brighton on thursday to practice with Steve A' from projections etc in car covered in snow (although there was none in Brighton, too much sun sea and sand I guess).. and then drove to oxford for that evenings gig to be confronted with even more blizzardish conditions. We actually had to park outside the eagle and child, so maybe it was some kind of lord of the rings related weather oddness. To top that I drove back from derby's solo gig last night (monday).. through some properly terrifying, slow down to 10 mile an hour cos you can't see snow storms on the M1, and it was only raining in Derby! Anyway thanks to all the folks we played with uter, were (snow) storming, and appropriately icy and futuristic in oxford, headliners hellset orchestra were also thoroughly enjoyable (although they remained a bone of contention with some folks, I dug their van ger graf generator/ Sensational alex harvey band stuff. and in London at RoTa, where SP provided able laptop support with a nice Davros related monologue as well, and Fupper impressed me again with Simon's continually evolving setup, now involving loops and laptop with live guitar and singing.. very nice. Last night was very nice too with Dave from Plans and Apologies acing what turned out to be his first ever solo show... which i guess makes a big difference if there's normally 6 other people in the band, and biff from empemetry doing a cracking version of "accident waiting to happen" by Billy Bragg!

Scrubs being on pretty much all day at the weekend on paramount comedy! The new absentee album Shmotime, and the new Field music b sides comp' which i blagged at the weekend, My latest novel and Jeffrey lewis last week who were great at the Luminaire which incidentally won london venue of the year in Time Out AND DESERVED IT hats off to them. Although the cake shop next door was nowhere near as good as it looked like it was going to be.. urrrrr. Ta ian.

YES! Our record is out, we did the release party on friday at the Buffalo Bar and it was ace! Even though I did miss all of an emergency and most of foals cos I was doing the door! Boo to door people who go to parties! Thanks to all the other bands for lending us stuff and not minding that we headlined despite not having played in over a year! It was great to be onstage making a racket like that, but was really weird, I think we got into it about half way through! Good to see Rowan our old guitar player, and also to have the likes of Chris Summerlin (another former guitarist), and Bob Davis (a former oi band member) in the crowd. More news on the release dates to shops etc to come, 'til then hit stupidcat's myspace page and paypal them your money. There's even a very quick off the mark review at opposition T comparing us to belle and sebastien, the cocteau twins, the cure and genesis! AWESOME!. lot's of gigs coming up as one would expect at such a point

HEY! Hands up who played at a kick ass party this weekend, IN NORBURY! That's right, south london represent, we rocked the party (kind of). I will put some pictures up soon. This was after putting in a solid 12 hour day on friday in Mute studios with Anne and dave six toes, finishing some more tracks. In other news we got the songs to work on MYSPACE so pop along and have a look at that.

YES hooray indeed for the good people at The Luminaire in Kilburn easily the best new venue in London. They treated us Six toes and the wolf tracks marvellously well, bands if they offer you a gig do it! People if there's something interesting happening there GO THERE. It took Jane an hour to get there from Sutton, which is less than it takes to get to the garage, and it's a much nicer venue! JUST GO THERE. ANYWAY.. news.. econoline's second album (recording for which began in March 2003) "this band isn't funny anymore" is finally done, the artwork was finished by my brother the lovely man, and the final package was chipped to Rachel and Andy Stupidcat at Dave Croft's birthday and all agreed that lo it was a good job it was finally over, so to celebrate

Hopefully everyone's holidays were of great benefit and interest to them, mine were, in that I did very little and got a load of STUFF out of it. Not bad. In more boring news, charlottefield were good live last night in London, and the singing Adam's with a massively drunk Howard Monk on drums were great last week too. And making your own fishcakes (i can thoroughly recommend it). Those at a loose end on the internet this week could also do worse than checking out a special show that went out on monday morning at 1am on radio 1. a tribute to the white album featuring, deerhoof, bardo pond, Part Chimp, songs of green pheasant, Lords, mark mulcahy, and a horde of others (inlcuding my other band Hey Colossus though they cut our version of Long long long off before we got the super hawkwind ending!) check it at radio 1

This weekend that's exactly what I did, and disappointingly wasn't snowed in anywhere or anything. SHAME, thanks must go out to Drew and Luke Birdwar in Leeds for sorting out their all dayer, I was only able to catch Aaron Stout and McWatt before I had to shoot over to Manchester, but both were great and I'm sure the other acts kept up the high standards. It was particularly good to catch up with Chris hardmen and Gareth "bologna pony" Hardwick, to hear about amusing developments in the Nott's area, prior to my gig there next sunday. Manchester was also really good, despite the fact that me and Jane managed to get lost somewhere in Cheshire on sunday lunch and were therefore late! Nevermind, D Louis Baker was awesome as were Blood Red Shoes I didn't get to stay and watch Voo (but I did pick up one of their extremely nicely packaged 7"s) or the little explorer (whose website seems to have disappeared) or Surrounded.. but I'm sure they all indie rocked the house. Thanks to Andy and Meng (sp? I hope that's right).. for the biscuits and the chance to play to the good folks of the greater manchester area..

Heads up if you want to read an edifying ten questions type interview with me, there are two of them on that internet right now one at Tasty zine and one at Diskant's Weblog so that might waste a moment of work time! Our gig last week with Jeffrey Lewis was ace, he was great, played with a drummer and a bass player and was backed up by a girl from Bikini Atoll with a Korg analog synth and a space echo. It was pretty SWEET. So thanks to the marvellous Track and fieldpeople for that!

Fernando, (THE SAINT) over at cielo liquido in spain has played ANOTHER track off our CDr, this time you can also hear the marvellous Pattern is Movement, Broken Social Scene, Pelican and the sinking citizenship over at his website. Rob Da Bank on his late night saturday show THE BLUE ROOM on radio 1 was kind enough to play Viborg of the CDr EP again. That show is awesome so if you're travelling late or just up early! at that time on a saturday (5 am I think) it's a proper eclectic mix. In other news we did a couple of gigs this week, and can report that Ryan's Bar in stoke newington has good Thai food, but the juke box was kind of stuck on the story of the clash which got a bit wearing third time round. Friday's show for knom at the king's head was great. We looked like this

although we did move a bit as well. In fact Howard from Knom (and Billy Mahonie GO AND SEE THEM ON TOUR THIS WEEK) offered to have us back for his special xmas show with the broken Family band, kyote, notorious hi fi killers, and numerous others.. So hopefully he won't forget.

Yes, as these photo's show, we are not averse to obeying the call of noted new indie rock scion's "clap hands say yeah"

Here, noted drummist V. Magaletti, show's her clapping skills, alongside myself and A. Carruthers of Mute studio beneath we see renaissance post hardcore man S. Ansell doing a touch of clapping at his Brighton studio.

to tell the truth he may actually be playing the percussion instrument known as the egg, but well it's through a window and it was about midnight by the time we were doing all that stuff. The machine we recorded onto used honest to goodness magnetic tape like they did in the last century.

When we were in Mute, we used the limitless bounds of digital technology to use various other hi tech instruments, WOW

Steve on the other hand only let us use filthy new digital technology (a keyboard) if we agreed to cause Piers potentially longstanding backpain by making him play crouched down like a street beggar

He's a hard task master, but it achieved the "GRITTY" sound we were after. I hope to be able to post some MP3's of this stuff soonest. Expect more details soon, (as well as gig updates and more stuff). TA ian

We did two recording sessions just recently, one with Steve Ansell in Brighton, on his 16 track with him on the tub's and it ruled we got 4 tracks done, all the vocals and everything down on that (including some back ups from your man ansell) and that's being mixed as i type. Then last weekend we went into Mute studios in west london and did 6 tracks of music, with valentina of querelle infamy, that was more involved and we haven't anywhere near finished those, but it's all on the way.

So, yesterday we did a radio session for the Glass Shrimp folks, on resonance 104.4 Fm, and it was jolly nice all round, and particularly thanks to all those who got in touch to say they heard it! It's really easy to imagine that no one but the two engineer chaps are actually hearing it at all so hats off! So thanks for that, hopefully we will get a copy of the session and when I find the cashola and the internet knowhow to get a proper site going we will try and put them online. In other news

RECORDING

This weekend we're hopefully going to laydown 4 tracks with Steve Ansell, of the mighty projections/ blood red shoes, behind the desk and the drums, and then next weekend we're going into Mute with Anne (esteemed engineer of the noisestar split 12" series) and Valentina out of that querelle on the drums. SO THAT'S EXCITING. Songs slated for recording include,

"that's my dog", "Miracle fish", "if you can't find it, grind it", "the one that sounds a bit like husker du", "lemons"," the one that goes DUN DUN DUN DUN DUH, you know" and others that we haven't even got vague names for.. but we'll come up with something.

BACK FROM THE GREENMAN

Got back on monday night from the Greenman where an awesome time was had by all, although less so for Piers on the monday morning when it was throwing it down with rain on his tent. The sound of it almost woke me up in the B & B but I just about managed to get through it. HO HO. Anyway Highlights for me were Superwolf, Joanna Newsom, Alasdair roberts, Scatter, aberfeldy, Broken family, band and the absentee, and lot's of other stuff was ace too, but in the end, the cider (and mead) were the winners overall. I will hopefully put some pictures up from that later in the week. Last nights gig in Derby went staggeringly well, and the organisers laid on cheese and some awesome chutney, that's what shows are all about, more food in DIY. Also we sold almost all of our test run of the new ec' CDr's we've decided we're going to make 100 (that should be enough to break the sewing machine). Hopefully if I've done it right I've added a paypal button below so people can email their address on econolineband@yahoo.co.uk, pay on paypal (either through their paypal account on with a credit or debit card, and be the proud owner of a four track CDr! If that works out, then we'll put some other stuff up online too, we have one box of the go team 7"s left and some copies of the breakfast of champions 7" and the 1st EP too. GOOD STUFF

City on film live in brighton last week, Bob Nanna doing "come on eileen" YES (I bought a t shirt), podcasts in general, and eat feed, morning becomes eclectic and skepticality in particular , and also the mounting excitement of GREEN MAN being only weeks away. HOORAY. Piers went to see the absentee play last week at the marvellous in the pines club and reported that they were ace, and he's also went to see them and the broken family band at the Spitz, and that was ace too, whilst at the weekend I went and bought House Tornado by the Throwing Muses (on vinyl), and the new Part Chimp record both (in different ways) are ace... Also good was Cove's Farewell to Pat gig, particularly when an errant member of Charlottefield fell off the bass amp whilst videoing the show, thus ending the song.. and the set, in style. . Josefina De Vasconcellos

More sad news, one of the worlds oldest living artists died last month, Josefina De Vasconcellos, she was 100 years old, her work was often associated with sites of conflict and concerned with the prospect of peace, she had sculptures at Hiroshima's peace Park, the Berlin wall, and in Stormont castle as well as all over mainland Britain. One of the new songs we've been playing at all our recent gigs was about her, I heard her speak on a radio 4 documentary last year and was massively inspired, she'd been doing her thing for more than three times as long as i've been alive. We salute her!

Silkworm

I saw Silkworm at ATP in 2002 having no real idea about them at all, and myself and Steve, the bassplayer in econoline at the time, were totally into them, they were just a really great indie rock band, I managed to buy most of their records since then, and the albums "The Italian Flag", "firewater" (a double concept album about BOOZE) and "lifestyle" have become firm favourites of mine, if you like Guided By voices, Spoon, neil Young and pavement and that sort of thing well you would dig Silkworm. What a sad businesss.

Or at least, those residents of London that came out on tuesday night to catch us opening for thee more shallows and Rothko, both of whom sounded awesome in the TEENY TINY confines of the Betsey Trotwood. Kim from Monotreme did a fantastic job and I look forward to listening to TMS' sesssion on Rob Da Bank's One world show.. complete with Al Green cover. SWEET. What did we look like shoe horned into such a place you might ask? Luckily my brother Neil was on hand to provide a pictorial answer to that question.

You will note that Piers Chandler took every opportunity to choke down more of his favourite ale at this show.. this is because he was getting the guts up to do this

but he needn't have worried as he brought it, as the WWE folks might say. I guess now we are kind of like they might be giants now, only without the chart success, jokes, kid's albums and money.

THE FUTURE
Is a bit quiet, at some point "the columbia" will be available as a ltd CDr single and our 2nd album might be out.. but in more concrete plans
LIVE
in September we will be playing some shows around the UK with our Finnish buddies Mother Goose.. who may also be playing some shows as Damo Suzuki's "sound carriers" around the same time. I saw the can legend's show with member's of Wolves! of greece/ lords/ bilge pump last year in Nottingham and it was amazing nearly an hour and a half of purely improvised SHTUFF. I am crossing my fingers that we may be involved in the actual sound carrying, but we'd have to learn to play something well enough to improvise properly.. so keep hoping.

RECORDS
Also we have provisionally booked some studio time to record some indie rock style goodness to complement the stuff we've been doing in our home studio (my bedroom and piers frontroom.. my bedroom is smaller but at least piers' cat doesn't jump on the computer when we're in there). We're going into Mute studios in early september.. As soon as stuff is done we will be touting it about all over the shop.. don't you worry.

I didn't get a chance to post/ mail anything over the weekend so I'm terribly sorry if anyone tried to get along to the Yacht Club gig on sunday, the "people" at the venue decided to nix the show with some lame excuse about double booking which is too tawdry to go into here, the folks at www.jonsonfamily.com had a good rant about it, and rightly so. Anyway we still have our gig tommorow! So please come along if you're in town..
Tuesday 19th July
Betsey Trotwood Faringdon, it's Thee More shallows headlining, with Rothko, and us opening, I would assume we'll be on around 8.15 or so, so it's an early one!
Here's some details as to how to get there (with the current tube problems).

The Betsey Trotwood, 56 Farringdon Road, London, EC1R 3BL.

Farringdon tube station: the only line currently running through the
station is the METROPOLITAN LINE (the metropolitan line is however not
running between Moorgate and Aldgate). The Circle line and Hammersmith &
City line are suspended.
However, there are other fully functional tube stations close to the
Betsey Trotwood. The closest are Chancery Lane and Blackfriars, both of
which are only a 10-15 minute walk from The Betsey Trotwood.
Chancery Lane is on the Central Line. Exit the station and head east
(towards Holborn Circus). Turn left on to Chapterhouse Street, then
left when you get to Farringdon Road. The Betsey is 5 mins up the road on
the right.
Blackfriars is on the District line. Take Exit 1 out of the station,
and walk up New Bridge Street. New Bridge Street turns into Farringdon
Road, so just keep going straight ahead until you come to the Betsey on
your right, opposite the Guardian building.

Thameslink: Thameslink services are running normally into Farringdon.

Tuesday July 19th
The Betsy Trotwood, Faringdon, We'll be playing with thee more shallows, a kind of Yo La Tengo/ built to spill/ beautiful tuneage type band from San Francisco www.theemoreshallows.com, and noted experimentallers Rothko from London, i'm not sure what line up they are rocking these days, I still remember the three bassists from the first time i saw them confusing people in the hope 'n' anchor around the turn of the century (!). Two bands whose records I have enjoyed. Thee More Shallows are over to record a session for Rob da Bank, and are on the marvellous www.monotremerecords.co.uk which is worth a visit should you enjoy the likes of 65 days of static, Stinking Lizaveta or Picastro (as well as TMS) ..

Things that have been rocking these past weeks

Joanna newsom's the milk eyed mender, the broken family band live (and their new album, welcome home loser), currituck county live, the film "trading places", seinfeld season four on paramount comedy (Sneakily timed to make me buy the DVD), Dinosaur Jr still ringing in my ears from the first week of June. My nieces and nephew on their trampoline. The last episode of Dr Who, the magic numbers single forever lost, eaves (superb german metalcore) live, and their album, Trojan Dub hits CD (including the skatalites version of "Guns of Navarone"), Stowford press cider, flip down sunglasses to go over my spec's and factor 30 sunblock.

Bas Jacobs, noted poet, label guy, bass player, guitar player arranger of smart weekends.. Here he is pictured DECLAIMING a goddamn poem in his back garden last sunday, where we swiftly followed him by playing some of our music. It was ace! We spent the whole day wandering around the east side of amsterdam to art galleries, bike shops, peoples houses and the like and watched a load of people do little solo sets and full bands whilst eating food people had prepared for us and drinking free booze. I imagine heaven is pretty similar. We also played with one of Bas' bands the day before, that looked like this

This is Pfaff rocking the Dutch country folks in Emmerlord which appeared to be the dutch version of Milton Keynes.. BUT WITH A GREAT ROCK CLUB! We had a good time there too, hopefully we will be able to get back to Holland once we have some stuff released again, and maybe to visit some other euro buddies of ours in Norway, Finland, Italy and Ireland.. that's all to come later in the year!

BUT FIRST

We actually finished the album "this band isn't funny anymore" months ago (or more accurately Dave Holmes finished it for us as we don't have a clue about that sort of thing. Lorraine from Seriously Groovy has laid out Valentina's artwork and there's an animated ad on the seriously groovy site that gives you an idea of just how swish it will look. So obviously we're just waiting for the last few piecs of the jigsaw, but just the other night, after coming roughly last in the local pub quiz, Piers and I finished the B sides for the columbia CD EP.. That track was available online from www.seriouslygrooy.com but dashed soon it will be available for mail order as a 5 track CDr EP in handmade sleeves.. We finalise details on thursday with a bit of luck.. and once the EP is out we wager that the album should follow?

AND FINALLY
Things that have been rocking me,
Lego Star Wars for the playstation 2, (WOW), Enablers, who also played in Emmerlord and were ace, Oneida live last week in London.. insanely good, the prospect of dinosaur Jr's original line up is what's keeping us awake at nights this week, and we also enjoyed these crazy snack things in holland which appear to be chip shop curry sauce wrapped in bread crumbs and deep fried. Holy moley you should try one, they're called Kroket's, consider yourselves told. TA ian

To all those who popped out to see us last week, and of course to those responsible for the evening's entertainment, "Mad Prop's" as the Hip Hop fellows say, to steve Ansell (former Cat on Former, and currently in the soon to be in your face Blood Red shoes, and projections) who did sound for us at the freebutt in Brighton. We got a really good Minidisc of the gig which will be online someplace soonish.. possibly also we may give some tracks to Spain's premier indie radio show www.cieloliquido.net.. more news on that soon. Anyway as we were busy recording audiological evidences of the show on tuesday there's no pic's but if you were wandering what two men playing instruments in a dark room look like. WANDER NO MORE, as these spectacular images from Saturday's RoTa show, (it's a wicked saturday afternoon freebie in notting hill, in west london)

Which was kindly loaned by Simon Hughes of electro Can/ faust/ general smartness monsters Blackhorse. They opened at RoTa and were amazing. Pfaff and Blues Brother Castro bought the Dutch garage rock/ sonic youth style indie rock vibes too, and both were thoroughly enjoyed by the good people of london and some very nice russian tourists who happened to be there too. INTERNATIONAL PEACE and UNDERSTANDING through the rock. beautiful. Next shows are in Holland as stated below. After that we're going to concentrate on finishing the album. Tracks so far recorded include songs about architect's, sculptors, the extinction of the tasmanian tiger, being a child in 1982, and getting a haircut.

14/5/05 London Notting Hill Arts Cafe, RoTa afternoon FREE gig, this place is great, does cheap booze and the show's run between 4pm and 7pm.. THERE WILL BE MUCH JOY HERE, econoline, with Pfaff from holland doing their crazy two drummer thing, and Joe/ Simon Stanton's new expansive, electronic but human sounding project BLACKHORSE.. (it's all one word apparently).

In other news, I saw the broken family band the other day, and lo it was good. The absentee opened and were pretty grand too. I also managed to catch I had an inkling, from manchester, opening for 65 days of static at the garage and they were post punk as all get out, I thoroughly enjoyed their fall stylings. Piers also went out and saw six toes with their new cellist at teh 12 bar, which I am informed was most enjoyable, we recorded some B sides (4, COUNT THEM, 4) for a mooted handmade CDr EP on Seriously Groovy after the fashion of the emetrex ones they did. So expect it to come in a nice fabric bag and look HOT. Lead track will be former download tune and former Steve Lamacq/ John kennedy hot sound (well they both played it more than once). The Columbia, which is about a hotel, in west london, that I went to once, and had a drink with the guitarist from thrash metallers testament, he was a top chap, but in general I came down in the against lobby wrt to that particular establishment. May 10th Brighton The Freebutt, this is part of the Brighton fringe festival, it's £5 and there's lots of ART happening and stuff with us and BELA EMERSON, GRZZLY, ADAM LYGO & PAUL MORGAN.

May 14th London RoTa free afternoon show, with us, Pfaff, Blackhorse (people from Stanton making electronic weirdness with a live rhythm section and all manner of manipulations) and maybe one more. That kicks off around 3.30pm and goes 'til 7ish.

Plus some more stuff to be going on with later in the month but we'll bring the sordid details later. Right I'm off to listen to Arcade fire, magnetic fields, former bullies, the postal service and the dinosaur Jr reissues. If you've any sense you'll do the same.

So on monday we played a gig for the very lovely chaps at www.popartrecords.co.uk in Manchester, it looked like this

We played with an amazing Manchester band called Former Bullies who were a two piece in the vein of Pedro the Lion/ Neil Young, and rocked our world. We will be ripping them off shortly, our next gig's on 18th April in london with mates of state, at the Windmill in Brixton. Ps Piers was on the news the other day, but it was only BBC 3 so we haven't sold out yet.

Look a picture... and this only took me about 2 weeks to figure out!

That's us in a garage, using garageband (on my ibook) to make some garage rock.. afterwards we listened to some UK garage and then went to the garage to buy some pasties.. My brother, Neil took this picture. Unlike me he is aesthetically minded and even made us look alright. He actually took loads of better ones of my nieces pretending to be the band instead.. as we thought we could do with an image change but I couldn't do a very good vocal impression of a preteen girl. Welcome to the new econoline weblog, basically the demise of the last domain name etc, coincided with us going 'offline' ourselves for a little while but we're back now, so here's the news. econoline is back into gear but with a new line up

and a new sound, we've been writing stuff and are currently working on new material, eg a cover of schizophrenia by sonic youth, as well assisting Mr Dave Holmes of Seriously Groovy in putting the very final of final touchs to our 2nd album for them, "this band isn't funny anymore". Two of the tracks from that session are avaiable on vinyl "Go Team!"/ "29/10/02" and that's available through shellshock from today. another of the tracks "the columbia" you can buy at www.karmadownload.com/?econoline and the rest will be out SHORTLY. In the meantime we are kicking back and listening to the new bjork album, menomena, GBV (RIP), TV on the radio, palace brothers and Iron and Wine. You have to ask yourself why you aren't too.
